Seminars & Consulting
Foundational
Participating in Vibrant Worship
This is the basic seminar offered by MFR. The teaching invites participants to rethink and experience corporate worship through the categories of gift, encounter, dramatic narrative, rest, play, and work. During the course of the seminar participants will be led in worship and invited to dialogue with each other around these ideas. They will be given materials to help evaluate their current worship situations through these categories.
[Offered in both half day and full day editions.]
Integrating New Forms of Worship
Things are changing so quickly in our culture. Many churches are struggling to negotiate the terrain of change in worship. Do we resist or adapt? How do we use the indigenous language of the culture to communicate the gospel? What remains unique to the church? How do we help people to transition in a mature and healthy way? All these questions are explored in this seminar.
Designing Worship as a Compelling Narrative
“Worship is the gift of covenant renewal enacted by the community of faith through their remembering and rehearsing the dramatic narrative of their creation, redemption, and ongoing transformation.” This thesis is the foundation for rethinking the ways in which we understand the basic character and movements of the corporate worship service. Out of this paradigm will arise fresh ideas for designing a worship experience.
Planning for Worship
Creating a Congregational Worship Statement
Congregations often operate with unexamined assumptions concerning worship and this often leads to the conflict that many churches experience around worship. Ideally, churches will have clearly identified parameters around what they understand and believe to be essential to their identity as worshipers of God. This is a process that requires some sustained reflection, study, and guidance. We offer to come along side congregations in this process (typically this would develop over the course of a year).
Developing Effective Worship Planning Teams
Worship planning through the years has often been a rote process where simple changes are made each week to a form that has been in place for a long time. This has the potential to limit the imaginative possibilities available for worship planning and worship itself. This seminar includes principles on team building, core teaching on the dramatic narrative nature of worship, the use of different planning tools, and offers a hands on experience of planning a creative worship service together.
[A half day workshop or two evening sessions is usually adequate.]
Choosing Appropriate Worship Music
So much music – so little time! So many opinions – so little taste! This seminar offers key criteria for choosing and teaching music to singing congregations.
Preparing for Worship
Praise Team Coaching
What does inspired and effective praise leadership look like? We come alongside praise teams to encourage, teach, and constructively critique current praise leadership. Everything from purpose, to teambuilding, to vocal/instrumental technique is examined.
Getting the Most Out of Your Sound System
We offer training for sound operators who need help in understanding the technical aspects of their sound systems, and the basics of developing ‘good ears’ for event sound engineering.
We are willing and able to adapt and customize any of these ideas to your specific needs.
If there is a topic and interest you don’t see here, ask us about it, and we’ll let you
know whether we feel adequate to address it.
“There are many pastors, worship leaders, teachers, song writers and musicians working in the church today, but rarely do you find a single life which embodies all of these callings and giftings in such a comprehensively connected and convincingly compelling way. Glen Soderholm is this rare person.
For those worshiping communities who have lost their way, Glen Soderholm is a skillful guide for the way home. For those who are on the way, he is a faithful companion on the journey. For those who are too content and overconfident about where they are, he is a clear minded and skillful critic and for those who are doing a well, he becomes a deep resource. For all the above, he is a joyful human being, good friend and a great example. When I reflect on Glen Soderholm’s life and ministry, four words come to my heart the most – thoughtful ….. faithful …… skillful ……. joyful.”
